Winter Persimmon and Apple Compote Recipe

Imagine having fluffy blankets around yourself, in front of a fireplace, it’s the best feeling when you get to enjoy a warm dessert that has seasonal fruit like persimmons and apples.

Treat yourself by assembling up a Winter Persimmon and Apple Compote! Flavors include honey, cinnamon, ginger, and red wine!

All deliciousness, hard to not try!

Ingredients:

  • 3 Persimmon
  • 1 Fuji Apple
  • 1 Tablespoon Butter
  • 50 mL Red Wine
  • 2 Tablespoons Raw Honey
  • Salt, just a pinch
  • 1 Teaspoon Grated Ginger
  • 1/2 Teaspoon Cinnamon Powder
  • 1 Teaspoon Vanilla Extract

Instructions:

  1. Peel the persimmons, remove the seeds, and cut into wedges. For organic apples, use them with the skin on. Remove the seeds and core, and cut into wedges. Grate the ginger.
  2. Heat butter in a pot and sauté the persimmons and apples over medium heat for about 5 minutes.
  3. Add wine, salt, and honey, then simmer for another 6-8 minutes.
  4. Once it starts boiling, add ginger, cinnamon, and vanilla essence, and simmer over low to medium heat for about 20 minutes (during this time, slightly offset the lid by 1-3 cm).
  5. If it seems to be drying out and might burn, add 1/4 cup of water, stir, and simmer for another 20 minutes. When the liquid reduces and thickens, it's ready.
  6. Enjoy!

★ Tips ★

  • You can substitute rum, orange juice, or apple juice for wine.
  • Sautéing persimmons and apples in butter enhances the flavor and makes it delicious, but it can still be tasty without adding butter.
